Just weeks after winning the World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers quickly topped MLB headlines again by signing LHP Blake Snell to a 5-year, $182 million deal with the Dodgers. His contract includes a hefty $52 million signing bonus, payable in January, and annual salaries of $26 million, half of which will be deferred each year.
Snell, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, broke the news himself by sharing a photo in a Dodgers uniform on Instagram. By joining the Dodgers, he will join a pitching rotation that includes Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Ohtani, who is expected to pitch again at some point in 2025, won his third MVP award this year as a designated hitter.
Yamamoto had an impressive rookie season, finishing with a 7-2 record and a 3.00 ERA in 18 starts. Despite injuries depleting the Dodgers rotation, they managed to clinch their second World Series title in five years. With Jack Flaherty and Walker Buehler now free agents, Snell’s arrival fills a critical gap, providing the team with a formidable ace option.
Last season with San Francisco, Snell had a 5-3 record with a 3.12 ERA in 20 starts this year, including a no-hitter against Cincinnati in August. Despite dealing with injuries himself, Snell struck out 145 batters and walked 44 in 104 innings.
Adding to the rotation, the Dodgers are also looking forward to having All-Star right-hander Tyler Glasnow and three-time Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw back in the mix following injuries last season.
