The showdown between coastline superpowers was much awaited; some even viewed it as a lead-up to the World Series. After the three-game-series, fans were left craving more after the Dodgers and Yankees battled it out in the Bronx. Roberts and the Dodgers were happy with the outcome at the end of the weekend after taking two of three games against the Yankees, but after a 6-4 loss on Sunday due to some wasted opportunities, the Dodgers felt as though a sweep had escaped them.
Aaron Judge hit three home runs in the last two games of the series to increase his MLB-leading total to 24. For the Dodgers, Teoscar Hernández also hit three home runs, including two on Saturday.
The Yankees, 46-21, have the best record in the American League despite their two losses over the weekend. Leading them is Aaron Judge, who leads the MLB in both home runs (24), and on-base plus slugging percentage (1.139). Juan Soto ranks second in the AL with a hitting average of .318 and second in the Majors with an on-base percentage of .424; he missed the series due to inflammation in his left forearm.
With a 41-26 record, the Dodgers as well are once again atop the National League West. As the defending division champs, they are vying for their 11th NL West championship in the previous 12 seasons. They have three players that are batting .310 with 15 home runs and a .947 OPS (Shohei Ohtani), .309 with 10 home runs and a .914 OPS (Mookie Betts), and .290 with eight home runs and an .879 OPS (Freddie Freeman).
The Dodgers will play in several series that carry more significance during the regular season. Three sold-out crowds at Yankee Stadium gave the Dodgers a taste of a postseason away atmosphere, and the weekend matchup against the Yankees served as a test of endurance for both teams.
Ultimately, though, the Dodgers' trip to New York proved productive. And they'll eagerly step up to do it again this fall if that's how things play out.
