NEW YORK — The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees 4-2 on Monday night, surging closer to their second World Series championship in five years. With this win, the Dodgers have taken a 3-0 lead in the, positioning themselves just one win away from an unexpected sweep.
Freddie Freeman continued to make his mark in the Fall Classic, homering for the third consecutive game on a two-run shot that set the tone early. This latest display of power not only helped the Dodgers build an early lead but also tied a Major League record, as Freeman has now homered in five straight World Series games dating back to 2021 with Atlanta, equaling the feat previously achieved by George Springer of the Houston Astros.
In addition to Freeman, the Dodgers' offense was bolstered by timely hits from Mookie Betts and Kiké Hernández, each contributing an RBI single that forced Yankees starter Clarke Schmidt out of the game by the third inning.
On the mound for the Dodgers, Walker Buehler delivered another strong performance. Buehler, along with six relievers, combined to hold the Yankees to just five hits and two runs on the night.
The Yankees now face the task of overcoming a 3-0 series deficit — something that has only been accomplished once in Major League history, when the Boston Red Sox rallied against the Yankees in the 2004 ALCS.
As the Dodgers gear up for Game 4, they will lean on their bullpen to go against rookie right-hander Luis Gil.
