Every Major League Baseball Franchise Ranked 30-1

December 26, 2024, by Taylor Bretl
Ranking Major League Baseball franchises is a complex task due to the vast differences in their histories. Some franchises have been around since Ulysses S. Grant was president, while others are relatively new, having emerged in the 1990s. To create a ranking system, it's essential to consider the most significant accomplishments a franchise can achieve.
For this ranking, I've identified the ten most impactful factors and assigned each a point value as follows:
World Championships: 1 point per.
Pennants: 0.9 points per.
Playoff Appearances: 0.8 points per.
Team Record: 0.7 points, multiplied by the overall winning percentage.
Hall of Fame Inductees: 0.6 points per player.
MVP: 0.5 points per player.
Cy Young: 0.4 points per player.
Rookie of the Year Awards: 0.2 points per player.
Silver Slugger Awards: 0.1 points per player.
Gold Glove Awards: 0.1 points per player.
The rankings are based on total points, which means newer franchises will naturally be at a disadvantage due to having less time to accumulate these achievements. To address this, I created another system by accounting for the length of time each team has been active.
The Tampa Bay Rays, who have been in existence for the least amount of time (27 years), are the floor, and the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs, who have both been around for the longest (149 years), are the ceiling. I then adjusted each franchise's score to account for the number of years they’ve been active, aligning them to the 149-year benchmark. The final scores, both before and after the adjustment, are rounded to the nearest thousandth.
This list consists of the franchise's ranked based on their achievements since their inception.
