The San Francisco Giants have signed the young Korean outfielder, Jung Hoo Lee, on a six-year, 113-million-dollar contract. With the signing, fans can breathe a sigh of relief. After countless free agency blunders, it appears that the orange and black have finally made a big signing. Additionally, it seems that this signing will be one of the more underrated in an off-season that has already featured multiple blockbuster trades and acquisitions. Lee, who is just 25, has already won an MVP in the KBO. The former Kiwoom Heroes outfielder slashed .319/.407/.456 in the 2023 season. With that impressive slash line, the youngster also slugged 6 home runs and racked up 45 RBIs in 85 games. His season would ultimately end prematurely due to a fractured ankle that would require surgery.
This is a move that was somewhat expected for the Giants. They have had their eyes on the outfielder for quite some time now. The eight-time world series champions came out on top, beating out the Blue Jays, Cubs, and Padres for the young Korean talent. With the addition of Lee, the Giants look to balance out what is an interesting offensive attack to say the least. While more of a contact hitter, the youngster has proved he is able to hit home runs. This seems to be the case with the vast majority of the Giants lineup, as the team finished 19th in total home runs in 2023. The team batting average sat at just .235 with an OPS of only .695. With the acquisition, the Giants have realized that their offensive struggles needed immediate attention. The Korean should help out in that department tremendously.

The Giants, going into the season, have what looks to be a somewhat even balance of youth and experience. Lee will be joining fellow youngsters Patrick Bailey and Marco Luciano on a squad that is seeking some offensive consistency in the upcoming season. The Bay Area faithful are justifiably excited for the arrival of the “Grandson of the Wind”, and will be looking forward to seeing what their Giants are able to accomplish in 2024.
