This offseason has already seen some early free agent moves, but none as significant as Juan Soto's free agency saga. On Monday night, five major league teams put offers on the table for Soto: the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays.
Tuesday morning, Soto stirred the pot on his decision, posting a video on Instagram teasing an announcement about his future team. Instead, it turned out to be a plug for his new partnership with energy drink company Celsius.
Soto, arguably the biggest free agent this offseason, is in a position to command one of the biggest contracts in MLB history. Many view it with the potential to be the biggest contract outside of Shohei Ohtani's $700 million deal with the Dodgers.
The team that successfully signs Soto is expected to become an immediate contender. At just 26 years old, Soto has already cemented his status as one of baseball’s premier hitters. His accolades include a Batting Title, World Series championship and a Home Run Derby crown. He's also a four-time All-Star and five-time Silver Slugger.
With the market hanging on his decision, Soto holds all the cards. Until then, the baseball world waits for his official decision, not what his favorite flavor of Celsius is.
