The Dodgers weren't quite finished making changes to their 2024 roster, even after an active offseason.
They acquired Twins shortstop prospect Noah Miller in exchange for veteran outfielder Manuel Margot. Miller was ranked as the Twins' 23rd-best prospect.
With Margot departing for Minnesota, the Dodgers were able to re-sign crowd favorite Kiké Hernández to a super utility role. Hernández will return to the Dodgers on a one-year deal once the Margot trade is finalized.
Margot was traded to the Dodgers from the Rays in just two months ago along with Tyler Glasnow. There was always a chance that the veteran outfielder might be transferred before the season began, given the Dodgers had planned to pay Margot $10 million in 2024.
Hernández provides an additional right-handed option for the Dodgers both off the bench and against left-handed pitchers. Before joining the Red Sox in free agency, Hernández was a key player in the Dodgers' 2020 World Series victory. Nevertheless, the Dodgers negotiated a deal for the super utility player at the previous trade deadline, and it worked out well for both parties.

The 32-year-old and the Dodgers kept in close contact throughout this offseason, since there was always shared interest. But Hernández's needs were starting to become more and more limited on the Dodgers' roster.
Hernández adds additional depth in the infield, being able to play anywhere on the diamond. Above all though, Hernández can assist in providing James Outman with a few days' break when facing left-handed pitchers in center field.
Hernández made excellent progress at the plate in 54 games with the Dodgers the previous season, hitting five home runs and recording an OPS of .731. Before then, in 86 games with the Red Sox, Hernández had just six home runs and a .599 OPS.
Kiké’s return to the Dodgers makes him now one of the many power players on this team.
