Left-handed slugger Cody Bellinger is the highest named bat that still remains on the market. With an impressive bounce back year, slashing .307/.356/.525, the former MVP was rewarded the 2023 NL Comeback Player of the Year. After a combined .187/.252/.345 in his '21 and '22 seasons, this award was more than well earned. On top of this award, Bellinger also collected his first Silver Slugger since his MVP season in '19.
Bellinger, 28, has been rumored to follow in the footsteps of other big-name players, and receive an elongated contract. Via CBS Sports analysts, a projected contract for the comeback player of the year is estimated around 6-10 years for around 24-30 million dollars a year.
Even with the high praise of the bat, Bellinger is more than just a one-sided player. Being one of the best defensive outfielders in the game, he collected a gold glove award in '19. With the knowledge of the terrific glove on top of the bat, where is the best fit for Bellinger? If you would ask someone two weeks ago, the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants would be two commonly named teams. With recent acquisitions of Soto, Verdugo and Grisham for the Yankees, as well as Jung Hoo Lee for the Giants, both teams have faded away from an addition of Bellinger. This leaves speculation for a new destination.

After the rumors of Shohei Ohtani landing in Toronto fell through, the possibility of the Blue Jays signing Bellinger long-term becomes more realistic. After a disappointing year from Daulton Varsho, a replacement in the outfield has become a more urgent need for the Blue Jays. In an already thin outfield room, Bellinger will make a huge impact both offensively and defensively. If the Blue Jays bring back Kevin Kiermaier, you'd have a 4x Gold Glove winner alongside another gold glover. If not however, Bellinger would have big shoes to fill defensively.
Even with all the talks about the Blue Jays, there are still tons of other teams that are in possible contention. One of which being the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs were a dark horse team to sign Ohtani, showing that they are willing to spend. With an already big addition of manager Craig Counsell, making him the highest paid manger ever, another big piece or even pieces are yet to come. With Bellinger reviving his MVP form in his one-year deal with Chicago, keeping him there would be a move that the city would love to see happen.
