With how big social media has gotten, athletes have found unique ways to engage with their followers, sometimes revealing subtle clues about their futures. This was recently shown with LHP Blake Snell who posted a photoshopped image of himself in a Dodgers uniform to announce his new destination of going to Los Angeles.
St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado may have given fans a hint about his potential offseason plans through a recent Instagram post. With a lot of trade rumors surrounding Arenado, he shared a post featuring the song "Dodger Blue" by Kendrick Lamar, leading many to speculate that Arenado could also be on the move to Los Angeles.
The full post is here.
Looking at the Dodgers’ current roster, there doesn’t appear to be a glaring opening for Arenado. Max Muncy put together a solid season at third base last season and is under contract through 2025, while Freddie Freeman holds down first base and Shohei Ohtani is expected to remain the team’s designated hitter. It’s a crowded infield, and Arenado’s fit doesn’t seem obvious. However, when the Dodgers are determined to land a player, they have a way of making it work, so the possibility of a trade can never be ruled out entirely.
Arenado’s no-trade clause adds another layer of complexity. He holds the power to choose his next destination, which complicates any potential deal for the Cardinals. If Arenado is only willing to move to a select few teams, St. Louis may have to accommodate his preferences to get a fair return.
Whether it was a playful tease or a genuine clue, only time will tell if Arenado’s move to the Dodgers is in the cards.
