Since his Major League debut in 2018, Shohei Ohtani has shattered records and redefined what it means to be a baseball player in today's game. The Japanese sensation has proven time and again that he is in a league of his own.
In a stunning 20-4 victory over the Miami Marlins at LoanDepot Park, Ohtani delivered a historic performance, going 6-for-6 with three home runs and 10 RBI. This feat made him the first player in MLB history to hit 50 or more home runs and steal 50 or more bases in a single season.
Ohtani’s remarkable 10 RBI game not only set a franchise record, but also propelled the Dodgers to their 12th consecutive postseason appearance. Despite the increased spotlight, Ohtani has continued to excel, positioning himself as a strong contender for his third MVP Award—this time in the National League.
Ohtani's 50th home run also breaks Shawn Green’s 2001 record of 49 home runs in a season by a Dodger. His extraordinary performance has been a key factor in the Dodgers’ quest for their 11th NL West championship in 12 seasons, despite numerous injuries plaguing the team.
Behind the scenes, Ohtani has been rehabbing from a second major right elbow surgery, aiming to return to the mound in 2025. Even with this setback, he has managed to deliver one of the most impressive seasons by a single player in MLB history.
Joining the Dodgers has allowed Ohtani to fulfill a postseason appearance for the first time in his career.
