This week the reigning World Series MVP had surgery to treat a left sports hernia. In result of the surgery, it's possible that he'll be ready for Opening Day, but nothing is certain. After attempting to rest the injury this offseason, Seager—who injured it somewhere during the 2023 postseason—decided to have surgery. While he is likely to miss most of Spring Training, there is a chance he could be ready for the start of the season.
Before the 2022 season began, Seager signed a $325 million, 10-year contract. At the time, he thought the injury could be managed, so he played with it during the postseason. He excelled at the plate, showing that it had no impact on him. In just 17 games, he batted .318 with six home runs, six doubles, and twelve RBIs, winning the World Series MVP and helping the Rangers win their first pennant.
Seager is coming off an incredible year where he hit .327/.390/.623 in just 19 games with 33 home runs, 42 doubles, and 96 RBIs. Behind Shohei Ohtani, he finished second in the AL MVP Award votes.

The star shortstop’s 2024 campaign is unlikely to be significantly impacted by this injury, but if he can't get up to speed in time during Spring Training, he might start a little later in the season.
Throughout his nine-year career with the Dodgers and Rangers, Seager has experienced his fair number of injuries. A left hamstring strain caused the four-time All-Star to miss thirty-one games last year. However, this injury is minor enough that adding another middle infielder as insurance is not necessary. If Seager isn't ready for the season to begin, Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran may both see time at shortstop.
With Seager being such a vital part to this Rangers ballclub, it is essential to see him in good shape this upcoming season.
