Finishing last season with a record of 82-80 and showing a lot of upsides as the year progressed, the Cincinnati Reds had high expectations of improving on last year's team. Through 41 games so far, they have been well shy of doing so. While both sides of the ball are under performing for Cincinnati, the offense has been the marquee struggle. During their 1-11 stretch, the Reds are nearly last in every big offensive stat.
Reds Offensive Numbers in Past 12 Games
Runs: 32 (Last)
AVG: .211 (26th)
OBP: .288 (24th)
SLG: .320 (Last)
OPS: 608 (Last)
Not only has scoring been hard to come by, but in the couple games where the offense has produced, the struggles flipped to the bullpen. In their last two games, scoring 5 runs in each, the Reds proceeded to get walked off both times after holding a lead for the majority of the game.
Their schedule doesn't get any easier from here. Once they wrap up their series in Arizona, they will stay on the road and travel to Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers. After the 4-game series, the Reds will travel back home to take on the San Diego Padres, followed by the Dodgers one more time.
While this cold streak has become a primary concern, there is still plenty of time for the Reds to turn things around with 121 games remaining in the regular season.
