Examining MLB predictions prior to the season and observing which players' numbers stick out the most is always intriguing.
For 2024, this is the ideal moment to do that. Let's use MLB stats from the 2023 season to find the players whose stat numbers are worth paying attention to.
Starting with Shohei Ohtani, a player who has gotten a lot of buzz after signing with the Dodgers. Ohtani ended the season with an OPS of 1.066, .304 AVG, 95 RBI, and an AL-leading 44 home runs and an MLB-leading 325 total bases. The 29-year-old recorded his second career 40+ HR season and was the first player in the Majors to reach it in 23’. The fact is that Ohtani the Hitter will probably remain one of the greatest producers of all time in 2024, just like he did in 2023. Due to recent surgery, the arm not being available next season could hurt Ohtani's odds. But again, it's Shohei Ohtani, they don't call him The Unicorn for nothing.
Next is the reigning World Series MVP, Corey Seager. In 136 games, Seager ended with 106 runs, 108 rbi, 39 home runs, and 48 doubles, including 66 at-bats during the postseason. The Shortstop's arrival in Texas after signing a 10-year, $325 million free agent contract in November 2021, sparked hopes that he could lead another franchise to a World Series title, in which he succeeded in 2023. With eight years left on his current contract, the 29-year-old has the chance to further enhance his already exceptional career.

We can’t forget about the reigning National League MVP, Ronald Acuña Jr. The right-fielder hit a .337 AVG, 41 HR, 106 RBI, and 1.012 OPS. According to Wins Above Replacement, Acuña is expected to be the most valuable player in baseball and the most valuable player in the National League (Mookie Betts is second at 5.9 WAR). He is also expected to win the MLB hitting title and have another insanely strong season. Acuña may become the first MVP to win both titles in back-to-back years since Miguel Cabrera in 2012 and 2013.
These hitters are the ones to look out for any eye-popping stats this upcoming season.
